Twenty-six years ago, the family arrived at their Mt Helena property with a vision. The 7.5-acre garden, though neglected, offered them a blank canvas—a place where imagination could take root. It was hard work in the early years, the ground was so hard in places the only option was ground covers. Over the years, they have transformed it into a vibrant, eclectic haven that reflects their love for quirky art, nature, and joyful living.
As lifelong collectors of whimsical objet d’art from around the world, (and roadside verge collections!) the owners finally found the perfect home for their nostalgic treasures. Sculptures peek from behind the shaded plants, vintage curiosities nestle among wisteria vines, and playful installations surprise visitors at every turn. Their garden is not just a visual delight—it’s a living gallery of personality and charm.
Yvonne, formerly an early childhood educator, infused the property with a spirit of carefree exploration. Her home and garden became a wonderland for children, especially her grandchildren, who would vanish into its magical corners until dinner called them back. A shallow creek meanders through the property, hosting countless model boat races and muddy adventures. Hidden nooks and imaginative play zones dot the landscape, each one a tribute to childhood freedom.
But the garden’s magic isn’t reserved for children alone. Towering trees provide shade and serenity, under-planted with a rich tapestry of bromeliads, wisteria, roses, and native flora. The garden ‘rooms’ provide a place for quiet reflection or noisy gatherings of family and friends. It’s a place where every corner tells a story.
Yvonne has generously opened her home and garden to the members of the garden club in September 2026. Write it on your calendar! The café bus is a step back to the 1950s and must be experienced!
