The New Potting Shed Is Almost Ready – Built with Recycled Materials
After months of planning, designing, and plenty of hands-on work, my new potting shed is nearly complete — and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out.
This shed wasn’t bought off a shelf or assembled from a kit. I designed it myself, carefully planning the layout to suit exactly how I garden. From the bench heights to the window placement, every detail has been chosen with propagation, wicking pots, and practical storage in mind.
Built with Recycled Materials
Wherever possible, I used recycled and reclaimed materials. Not only has this helped keep costs down, but it’s also given the shed real character. Repurposed timber, salvaged fixtures, and second-hand fittings have all found a new life here. Sustainability was important to me — and it feels good knowing this little building has a smaller environmental footprint.
Designed for Growing
The space has been designed to work as a productive growing hub. Soon it will be filled with:
- Seed trays ready for propagation
- Cuttings getting their start
- Wicking pots set up for efficient watering
- Clearly organised storage for tools, pots, and supplies
With our hot summers, plants would cook in a small closed in space, so open air and shade was the key to creating an ideal environment for young plants while still keeping the space practical and comfortable to work in.
The Fun Starts Now
With construction almost finished, the really exciting part begins. Setting up the benches, organising supplies, and — best of all — starting the first round of propagation.
There’s something deeply satisfying about creating a space with your own hands and then using it to grow new life. This shed isn’t just a structure; it’s the beginning of many future growing seasons.
I can’t wait to share updates once it’s fully operational.
